I am a Mormon!!!

I've just spent nearly 2 hours reading and re-reading your comments and opinions on us Mormons. Yes, I said "US" Mormons, because I am one. True blue, through and through, dyed in wool, born and raised in Utah. What I find most interesting is that I just posted to my own LJ on this very thing.

What I find most interesting is that most of you believe that Mormons are not Christians, that we are a "cult". And so here I give you the definition of the word: http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/cult

As you can see, the word means any type of following, Christian or Non-Christian. So in other words, all Christians belong to their own respective cults.

Now I know there will be many who will disagree with me on that. I am open to any questions, comments, what have you. But you need to know that I will not tolerate others telling me what I do or do not believe. I KNOW what I believe, and I practice what I believe. We follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, the One and Only Christ. And the Book of Mormon is spoken of and prophesied of in the books of Isaiah and Daniel (we can get into that later, if you like). It is another testament of Jesus Christ, a record of a people who left Jerusalem around 600 B.C. and traveled to the Americas. It is a spiritual record of their lives and struggles, much like the Bible. We DO NOT replace the Bible with the Book of Mormon in any of our teachings. They are both very important to our doctrine.

One of my best friends is a Jehovah's Witness, and there is a lot of untruths out there about their religion as well. I wanted to know about her religion, so I asked her. I wouldn't go to her to find out about Catholics, now would I? That's like asking a person born in Finland to tell you the history of Kenya.

Although we are always referred to as Mormons, the name of my church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We believe our church is the same church Jesus established when He was on the earth, that's why we call it His church of the Latter Days (we can get into that later as well, if you like).

Someone also mentioned that we exclude and condemn homosexuals. I can't speak for other members, but as for myself I know for a fact that isn't true, because I am a homosexual. Yes, you read that right. I've struggled with same-gender attraction my whole life (I'm 31), but I have never been condemned by my leaders or my family because of it. I don't ever plan on acting on my attractions, which sets me apart from most homosexuals. Now, I'm not putting myself on a pedestal here. I know how strong the feelings are, I just choose not to act on them. And I don't believe people who do are bad and evil people either. Two of my best friends are gay, and I love them both just like I love my own brothers. I wish I could say that all the members of my church feel the same way, but I think you can find that kind of prejudice in any religion.

You all are welcome to visit my profile, however my LJ is friends only. I will be unlocking my most recent entry so you can read it if you wish.

Thank you for reading, and I look forward to hearing from you all, or some of you, anyway. ;)

God bless you all.
